Rainbow Brands Visits The Lake District
Last week Rainbow Brands enjoyed the beauty of the Lake District including the buzzing Keswick Mountain Festival.
It was our first time in the Lake District and it’s easy to see why it’s labelled the outdoor adventure capital of the UK. Rolling green hills and mountains, streams, glorious trails to follow, everything you could possibly want on your doorstep that will inspire you to get out and have fun. Fell walking or running is something you should try if you haven’t which will take you up for some great views.
We rented a cottage in Threlkeld which is an ideal base for all types of leisure activities. There are plenty of opportunities for walking from ascents up Blencathra and Skiddaw to lovely low level and riverside walks. Blencathra is a favourite for fell walkers. Though there are rocky ridges for seasoned scramblers there are also easier ways to go up. There is a small car park just beyond the Blencathra Centre at the top of Blease Road which gives you a good leg up Blencathra and an easier route via Blease Fell. We part jogged and walked up from the car park it was great! Our cottage was a stroll from the carpark with lovely views.
Keswick town has a lot of character with a variety of shops and numerous specialising in the outdoors, an ideal place to plan your adventures. Within walking distance is Crow Park which is a National Trust site where the Keswisk Mountain Festival took place. Earlier this year his Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales attended Crow Park as the guest of honour at a special community event to mark the Lake District as a World Heritage Site to unveil the official UNESCO plaque to mark the designation.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) seeks to encourage the identification, protection and preservation of cultural and natural heritage around the world considered to be of outstanding value to humanity.
Crow Park has a great lake with mountains opposite and a theatre. The Theatre By The Lake has been called the “The most beautifully located and friendly theatre in Britain”.
Beatrix Potter is best known for her beautifully illustrated children's books of Peter Rabbit and friends. She spent many childhood holidays in the Lake District and these influenced her work. Squirrel Nutkin sailed on Derwentwater and Hawkshead was the setting for The Tale of Johnny Townmouse. Our little Doran is a huge fan of Peter Rabbit. We had to visit Peter Rabbit and Friends in Keswick Town to buy him a present.
Famous literary names too, such as Southey, Coleridge, Wordsworth and Ruskin, were influential in attracting the early tourists to experience the spectacular scenery all around.
It gives us a buzz to meet people who share the same passion. We made new friends and look forward to returning. The Lake District is truly a must if you are looking for a great place to unwind, relax, become one with nature and get inspired or if you are looking for somewhere different to try!
Stay Safe Keep Buzzing!
