Pumpkin Power!

With Halloween and Thanksgiving this time of year you know it’s pumpkin time once again. But did you know that this fruit which is related to cucumbers is a super fruit?

Here Are Just a Few Benefits:

i) Cooked pumpkin is a high source of potassium which helps restore the body’s balance of electrolytes after a heavy workout and keeps muscles functioning at their best.

ii) Pumpkins provide more than 200 percent of your recommended daily intake of vitamin A, which helps vision. Pumpkins are also rich in carotenoids, the compounds that give the pumpkin their bright orange colour, including beta-carotene, which the body converts into a form of vitamin A.

iii) Good source of fibre keeping you feel full for longer.

iv) Pumpkin seeds can help your heart. Nuts and seeds, including those of pumpkins, are naturally rich in certain plant-based chemicals called phytosterols that have been shown in studies to reduce LDL or “bad” cholesterol.

v) Pumpkin seeds are rich in the amino acid tryptophan which is important in production of serotonin, which can influence our mood.

Be sure to buy and eat pumpkin this year.

We’d love to hear from you with great pumpkin recipes.

Wishing you all a safe Halloween and good Thanksgiving.

Keep buzzing!
